Job Duties:


Completes all fire inspection requests, including, but not limited to contractual obligations, licensing and permitting, and statutory requirements in assigned territory within a reasonable time frame; upholds SC Code of Law 23-9, regulations promulgated by the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) and OSFM SOP’s. Operates in accordance with SC Code of Law 23-51 for assigned FSC duties and investigations. Conducts health and environment safety inspections of all required DSS Foster Homes. Duties include verifying home age based on tax records for limited Lead Risk Assessments, verifying rabies vaccine inoculation of pets/livestock, septic tank investigations, water heater temperature compliance, Lead check swab tests, well water sample procedures in accordance with DHEC lab procedures (including sample submission within testing period), interpreting and notifying applicable parties of test results, educating on disinfection procedures and re-sampling water after disinfection. Prepares accurate and complete records of inspection activities by entering all required information into the Inspection Database. Cites violations applicable to state laws, rules & regulations, and adopted editions of codes & standards as per Standard Operating Guidelines. Conducts follow-up inspections of original inspections to ensure timely and accurate corrective actions have been taken for all cited violations. Reviews construction plans and meets with architects, engineers, contractors, building officials, and fire officials to advise on agency interpretation and application of SC State Laws, SC Rules & Regulations, and/or adopted edition of codes and standards. Assists local AHJ's, Fire Departments, Fire Marshal's, Building Officials, and/or other state authorities as assigned. Performs strategic planning activities and other duties as assigned or requested.


Job Qualifications:


A high school diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience.

May require overnight travel and after hours inspections/investigations. Must be able to lift, or carry briefcase, box, fire extinguisher, or other objects in the amount of 50lbs. Must be able to climb ladders, access crawl spaces under floors and in attics, climb and descend stairs, squat, kneel, stand, and walk for extended hours. Employee will be required to drive a state vehicle and possess a valid South Carolina driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) that complies with state fleet guidelines. Employee must be available for emergencies. Work requires extensive travel and constant contact with the public. Counties to include, but not limited to: Kershaw, Lee, Richland.

Bachelors Degree; ICC Fire Inspector I or equivalent; and two (2) years of experience in code enforcement and/or fire prevention.
