Job Duties:


Job Purpose:
Implements the use of GIS technology and its related services and applications wherever needed throughout Lexington County while supervising GIS software and computer purchases and licensing within the Department. Supervises County GIS and planning projects including those of the Planning Commission, ensuring that GIS technology is used wherever beneficial.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements the use of GIS technology wherever needed throughout the County; promotes the collection of data in a manner that can be linked to GIS spatial applications.
- Remains up to date on latest technology and issues within GIS in order to provide guidance to the County.
-Presents on GIS topics ranging from GIS in local government, special projects, and GIS systems administrations.
-Seeks out ways in which GIS data, map services, and web applications can be used in other departments and agencies.
-Oversees GIS integration into new software systems.
-Supervises GIS data distribution with vendors and other agencies, including data sharing agreements.
-Oversees all aspects of GIS software and hardware purchases within the department, including annual budget requests and final implementation; assists other departments with their purchases; coordinates execution of Esri licensing.
-Supervises coordination with the Department of Information Services concerning hardware specification and space allocation for County GIS users.
-Sets standards for GIS procedures and policies.
-Determine needs, secure training if needed, and develop schedule for Lexington County ArcUsers Group.
-Supervises the execution of GIS special projects for various departments and County planning projects; coordinates response to special County Council projects; overses participation in projects involving state, regional, and federal agencies.
-Coordinates with Census Bureau for the County.
-Provides support, evaluation of performance, testing, and guidance for the expansion of the County GIS System including geodatabases in Esri's Spatial Database Engine (SDE) and web mapping services and applications
-Provides guidance for troubleshooting system problems and Esri software issues


Job Qualifications:


§ GIS technology;
§ Ersi’s GIS software products including ArcGIS server;
§ Relational database management systems such as SQL server and GIS architecture;
§ Financial management;
§ Hardware requirements for GIS software;
§ Applications for GIS software;
§ Planning concepts such as population growth, demographics, and addressing.

§ Using GIS applications;
§ Communication;
§ Learning and troubleshooting software;
§ Meeting quick deadlines;
§ Maintaining methods of planning research.

§ Bachelor's degree, with 3 to 5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Licensing and Certifications:
§ None Required.
