Salary Range: $15.76-16.25 Per Hour

 

Job Duties:

 

This position performs various related duties such as preventive maintenance, hauling dirt and other materials, performing general labor, clearing right of ways, and related tasks.  Duties include properly and effectively operating a variety of heavy equipment and machinery used in the construction and maintenance of County roads and facilities, knowing how to perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment and make minor repairs, has a working knowledge of the principles and methods of maintenance and construction, knows how to estimate time, materials, and supplies required to complete various tasks and repairs, and is able to learn and apply new skills relating to the methods and procedures of the department. The Motor Equipment Operator must also have the ability to work in extreme conditions of heat, cold, dust, smoke, and other weather conditions, be able to offer assistance to fellow employees as necessary, is knowledgeable and skilled in the utilization of a variety of machinery, tools, and equipment needed to complete daily tasks in an effective and safe manner, is able to comprehend and apply regulations and procedures of the department, possesses comprehensive knowledge of trade terminology and principles, has the ability to use independent judgment in various task planning and implementation, has the ability to interact with a variety of persons and groups in an effective and positive manner, and has the ability to carry out instructions and assignments in a timely manner as prescribed.  The Motor Equipment Operator III/CDL reports to the Director of Roads & Bridges.

 

Job Qualifications:

 

1. High school education or equivalent with one to two years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator or a closely related position that is equipment and service related.
2. Must have a valid class III motor vehicle license Issued by the State of S.C.
3. Must be able to successfully complete Commercial Driver's License requirements.
4. A criminal background check will be completed on selected applicant if a current one (less than 3 years old) is not on file
