Description & Details

Duties for this full time position include management of fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft; supervision of 2 part-time County pilots; aerial application of public health insecticides; surveillance; pre- and post-flight checks; assistance with the service, maintenance, or repair of aircraft and spray equipment; compliance with applicable FAA regulations/directives and State/Federal pesticide regulations; support of Emergency Management (Sheriff’s Office) activities; and record keeping.  Aircraft consist of one OV-10 Bronco (operated under public use) and one MD-500D/Hughes 369D (operated under public use and Part 91).


•    Vocational/technical degree with emphasis in aviation
•    Must possess and maintain valid FAA Commercial Pilots License with helicopter, multi-engine, and instrument rating
•    1,500 hours total time
•    500 hours multi-engine time
•    500 hours helicopter time with 100 hours in turbine powered helicopter
•    Three (3) years previous experience or training in pesticide application
•    Flight qualifications must be approved by insurance carrier
•    Experience with management of crew members and interface with FAA to maintain required Congested Area Plan and Low Altitude Waiver
•    Experience with aircraft maintenance preferred [Note:  Mosquito Control employs one (1) full-time aircraft mechanic with an A&P and IA
•    Experience with aerial navigational systems designed for mosquito control (such as AgNav Platinum with FlightMaster) preferred
•    Must possess (or obtain within six months of hire date) and maintain valid South Carolina Certified Pesticide Applicator License (including Category 8 – Public Health Pest Control and Category 11 – Aerial Application of Agricultural Chemicals)
•    Must possess and maintain FAA Class II Medical Certificate
•    Must be able to lift up to forty (40) pounds
•    Must be able to work independently
•    Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record
•    Computer proficiency
•    Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•    Work schedule is typically 6:00am to 2:30pm, Monday to Friday, but may vary

SALARY:  $25.94 hour DOQ
