PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER: This position reports to the County Administrator, oversees the creation of dynamic and creative multimedia content, is responsible for media relations, establishes and implements internal and external communications procedures and related work. Oversees budgets and provides supervision and direction to staff in the Communications, Records Management / FOIA, and Broadcasting Departments. Prepares and distributes press releases and creates communication strategies for County Council and County Administration. Attends meetings and makes presentations as needed.  Establishes and implements policies and procedures regarding County communications.  Maintains strong working relationships with internal departments, outside organizations, the media and the public. Serves as the official spokesperson for the County and oversees the County’s branding and messaging, and proactively promotes the County’s activities.  May perform other related duties as needed.


REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
•    Bachelor’s degree with coursework in journalism, public relations, marketing, public administration, or related field;
•    Seven (7) years of experience in media relations, community outreach, public speaking, writing, editing and marketing, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
•    Public sector experience required;
•    Three (3) years of supervisory / management experience required
•    Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
