GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of high-level, technical administrative support duties for the County Administrator to ensure smooth and efficient operations in the Administrator’s office; performs directly related work as required.


DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF CLASS
The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide high-level, technical administrative support to the County Administrator. The work is performed under the direction of the County Administrator, but extensive leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. Supervision is exercised over the work of the Administrative Services Coordinator. The nature of  the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the County Administrator, other County employees, the general public, local businesses and other Federal, State, and local agencies. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.
 
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all County departments, programs, and projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of County and Council procedures and policies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of modern office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern standard bookkeeping principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of effective research tools and methods, including the use of the Internet.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard composition and proper grammar.
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal, State, and local government agencies.

Skills

  • Skilled in communicating effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using technical and nontechnical language.
  • Skilled in accurately typing correspondences, reports and memoranda.
  • Skilled in preparing correspondences according to standard business practices.
  • Skilled in operating a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree from an accredited institution; and
  • 7-10 years of experience in providing administrative support to upper management; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
