The South Carolina Association of Counties, with the Joseph P. Riley Jr. Center for Livable Communities, College of Charleston will hold the Institute of Government for County Officials on February 20, 2020, the day after the 33rd Annual Mid-Year Conference. The Institute is designed to provide the opportunity for county officials to enhance their skills and abilities to function effectively as elected officials. Clemson University’s Master of Public Administration Program is a sponsor of the Institute.The Institute provides an opportunity for county officials to enhance their skills and abilities to function effectively as elected officials. A minimum of 12 courses are offered each year.


The cost per course is $80.00, which includes all materials and coffee breaks (lunch is NOT included).

Cancellations must be made in writing. Registrations canceled before Thursday, February 13 will be subject to a $10.00 service charge. No refunds will be given after that date — no exceptions. Registration will be $90.00 per course after February 13 and on-site.

Measuring and Reporting County Performance 


This workshop is open to all council chairmen and vice chairmen. Participants will discuss the duties, powers, and responsibilities of the chair and vice chair leadership positions. Strategies for running effective meetings, the importance of rules of procedure, and building effective working relationships will also be addressed. Although the session will be geared toward new chairs and vice chairs, experienced chairs and vice chairs are encouraged to attend. This workshop is offered free-of-charge and participants will earn three hours of credit toward Level II certification. You may register online by clicking here.
